Altar linens hold great significance in the Catholic Church because they are used in the sacred liturgy where they come into contact with the Body and Blood of Christ. Proper care, handling, and cleaning of these linens reflect reverence for the Eucharist and uphold the dignity of the Mass.
What
Different Altar Linens Used in Mass:
Corporal- Placed on the altar to catch any particles of the consecrated host or Precious Blood.
Purificator- Used to wipe the chalice and paten after Communion.
Pall- A stiff cover placed over the chalice to protect its contents.
Lavabo Towel- Used by the priest to dry his hands after the symbolic act of purification
Altar Cloth- Covers the altar, symbolizing its sacred nature.
Credence Table Cloth- Covers the table holding sacred vessels before and after mass.
