Adult Faith Formation

Mission

To assist the Adult Faith Formation
Coordinator in developing and facilitating adult faith formation opportunities for the parish.

 

Qualifications and Skills Needed

An Adult Faith Formation Team member is someone who is joyful in their love of Christ, prayerful, flexible and faithful to this ministry of the church and would like to participate in various aspects Adult Faith Formation. Some of these include Adult Confirmation, Mini-Retreats, ongoing Catechesis and Parish Community Events. We need volunteers who will provide a
welcoming environment, collaborate with a parish team and seek out opportunities for training and spiritual enrichment.

 

Time Required

Time required varies and depends on level of involvement.

Becoming Catholic.jpg

Becoming Catholic

(RCIA)

Mission

To support adults on their journey toward becoming fully initiated in the Catholic Church.

 

Qualifications & Skills Needed

An RCIA Team member is someone who is joyful in their love of Christ, prayerful and flexible as they listen to participants’ stories and accompany them as they grow in faith. Team members create a welcoming environment, collaborate with parish team and seek out opportunities for training and spiritual enrichment.

 

Time Required

We need RCIA team members who are willing to provide help setting up and cleaning up, and to be a prayerful presence on Wednesdays nights. We also need volunteers to help on Easter Vigil as we prepare the Catechumens and Candidates for their initiation sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation.

Book Club

Mission

The Immaculata Book Club enjoys reading books that enrich our faith knowledge and inspire our hearts.

We read a variety of books from classics to recently published, while deciding as a group the pace to take with each book. Parishioners over 18 are welcome.

Qualifications & Skills Needed

People willing to read, share and listen to the many insights the books may have brought about in our hearts and minds.

 

Time Required

The Book Clubs meets the first and third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in The Immaculata’s Conference Room. You are welcome to participate one book at a time or as your schedule permits.

Immaculata Young Adults

Mission

By gathering as a community of Young Adults, we prepare our hearts to share the love of God with others. We invite all young adults, married or single, to join us for prayer, bible study, and much more.

 

Qualifications & Skills Needed

If you are between the ages of 18 and 39 and want to be connected to other young adults through prayer, fellowship and service, join us on Thursday evenings.

 

Time Required

We meet on Thursday’s from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. in Madonna Hall or in Maher Hall, Room 222. The room will be specified in the weekly email, or you can contact the parish office. Send us an email to be added to the weekly email list!

Vocations

Mission

The Program for Priestly Formation provides a residential program for men discerning their call to the priesthood for the Diocese of San Diego usually while attending college to obtain their BA in Philosophy or to earn philosophy credits in preparation for
attending a seminary school of theology. In addition to university course work activities include formation conferences, retreats, a daily prayer schedule, pastoral opportunities and spiritual direction.

 

Qualifications and Skills Needed

Candidates for the priesthood must be at least 18 years old, have graduated from high school and have lived in the Diocese of San Diego for five years. They must be humanly mature with excellent relationship and communication skills with men and women of all ages. They must demonstrate a love for God and the Church by having a well developed life of prayer and experience of ministry. They must have demonstrated the ability to live chastely and in accordance with the teachings of the Church. Men interested in entering the Program of Priestly Formation should contact the
Diocesan Office for Priestly Vocations.  Those invited to apply must undergo a screening process that  includes psychological testing.  Upon approval of the Diocesan Bishop, a candidate is accepted into the Program. 

 

Time Required

Men accepted into the Program of Priestly Formation become
residents at St. Francis Center and are engaged in full-time studies.

High School Youth

Mission

To create a safe environment for the High School youth of our parish. We desire to help our young people grow in their relationship with God through Jesus with opportunities for prayer, fun, service and fellowship with other youth.

 

Qualifications & Skills Needed

Adults willing to serve our youth and help them delve deeper into their faith through a variety of activities. Please be aware that we Youth Ministry is separated into two age groups. Please let us know if you prefer working with High School youth or Middle School youth.

 

Time Required

Varies according to the activities in which you participate. Activities may include monthly youth event, community service opportunities, prayer services, parish events, outings, and refreshments after Sun. 11:00 a.m. Mass.

Infant Baptism

Mission

To assist parents who seek to baptize their infant child by providing catechesis as well as providing hospitality and direction on the day of the baptism.

 

Qualifications and Skills Needed

Desire to assist families with infants to grow in their faith and involvement in the Church, have knowledge about the meaning of Christian baptism and be an effective teacher, be warm and welcoming. Baptism Specialization Class recommended.

 

Time Required

May teach the monthly Baptism Preparation Class and be present at the Parish Baptisms.

Familiy-Centered Faith Formation

Our new “Family-Centered Faith Formation" program for children 1st – 8th grades, centers on the family, giving parents an opportunity to be actively involved in the delivery and discussion of weekly lessons.  It includes a blend of “at home” & “hosted” opportunities, offers flexibility, can be done any day of the week at any time, reducing stress of having to choose between Sunday sports or other activities and Religious Education.  Families have access to a portal with additional resources as well as mentors who offer guidance and support.
